Makarfi Faction Sets Up PDP Strategy Review Committee

The Caretaker Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has constituted a committee headed by a former Minister of Information, Professor Jerry Gana, to re-invent the party.

The committee was inaugurated on Tuesday by the Senator Ahmed Makarfi-led faction of the party in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital.

Professor Gana highlighted some of the purposes for which the committee was setup and they include developing new strategies to end the party’s leadership crisis.

He assured the PDP faithful nationwide to keep hope alive, saying that the party was only asleep, as the committee was on a mission to wake it up from slumber.

However, the committee’s terms of reference and its composition was concealed from the public.

“After this inauguration, we will appeal to you all to kindly wait because we do have letters of appointment that will be distributed by the secretary to all of you.

“The letters already contain the terms of reference and also we will take a few minutes to analyse the terms of reference and at least, agree together on an initial work plan so that we will not lose the momentum.

“So kindly don’t rush away after the inauguration. Give us a few minutes, we assure you that we shall be very focused and together resolve how we will move forward.

“So I appeal to you to kindly wait after the inauguration,” he said.

‘Wake Up The Giant’

The chairman of the newly constituted committee also assured the party members that the PDP would experience a noticeable progress after the recommendations were implemented.

“By the end when we submit our report and the recommendations implemented, this party will be better.

“This party will move forward and I know it will happen because when the great party ‘The PDP’ was born on the 31st of August 1998 in Abuja, many of you here were the ones who took the ideas back to your states and you mobilised.

“Whatever anybody may say, the PDP is the only party that everyone in the Federal Republic of Nigeria is waiting for.

“So this giant is just sleeping, this committee is to design ways to wake up the giant and to move again and to roar again, to mobilise again and move forward,” Professor Gana said.
