Anambra, ObianoThe Anambra State governor, Willie Obiano has said that the state’s economy remained one of the most viable in the country, despite the present economic recession.

The governor was speaking, when he received a delegation from the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria, ICAN, at the Government House, Awka.

The governor further stated  that aside ensuring financial standards compliance, he was committed to the training of civil servants in the state sitting for ICAN and ANAN professional examinations to boost their competence and knowledge.

According to the National President, Titus Soetan, the delegation was in the state to evaluate the operations of its two districts in Awka and Onitsha as well as their members, in line with the ICAN mandate as the regulatory body for accountants in the country.

He commended the governor for adopting accountability and transparency in the governance of Anambra state and urged him to ensure both government and other public entities in the accounting profession.

He also appealed on training of Finance officers in civil service for promotion of professionalism and efficiency.

“While commending the state government for the sponsoring of our members to relevant training, seminars and conferences in the past, may I urge you sir, not to relent on this gesture as the benefit derived is enormous. More members in the state employment should be sponsored to the following programmes organized  by the institute.”

“I’ve listened to the points made with respect to training, we don’t joke with training here and we will continue to do so. We will also be willing to support some civil servants that want to write ICAN, like we are supporting also the civil servants who want to write ANAN.
The governor who is also a chartered accountant and a member of the Lagos District, presented government souvenirs to his colleague with assurances that all through his administration, he would promote ICAN standards and make them proud.
