The Federal Government has announced the resuscitation of the Accident Investigation Bureau (AIB) laboratory designed to download information from flight data and cockpit voice recorders.

The Commissioner in charge of the AIB, Mr Akin Olateru, made the announcement on Monday at a news conference in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital.

Mr Olateru noted that with the development, the government has again reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring the safety of the nation’s air space.

He explained that the laboratory, which was installed in 2012, was under-utilised due to challenges from the manufacturers and lack of human capacity to manage it.

The commissioner said that the optimum performance of the laboratory was central to the Bureau’s contribution to air safety in Nigeria and the sub-region.

He added that the AIB has resolved to meet the expectation of Nigerians to ensure early release of accident reports through the resuscitation of the laboratory.
