The Eagle Creek fire which started on Monday (September 4), has continued to expand in Hood River, Oregon, burning some 4,800 acres (19.5 kilometers square), local news reports.

The fire has caused the closure of Interstate 84 (I-84), Oregon Department of Transportation said visibility was poor due to the heavy smoke and that the fire is getting closer to the road.

With the winds blowing west smoke has blown over much of gorge and Portland metro area, local news reports.

An air quality warning has been issued and remains in effect until Tuesday (September 5) night.
