Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki has warned the management of the State Independent Electoral Commission (EDSIEC) against acts of injustice.

The governor gave the warning on Thursday during the inauguration of the EDSIEC Board at the Government House in Benin City, the state capital.

He asked them to be fair, impartial and objective in the discharge of their duties, saying his administration decided to retain some former members of the Board in view of their wealth of experience in delivering on the task ahead.

Governor Obaseki said the state government has the passion to build credible institutions that are critical to the sustenance of Nigeria’s democratic process, particularly the conduct of local government election where the democratic structure lies.

He said:“The whole purpose of our democratic process to begin to build an institution that will sustain democracy itself.

“Local government elections at the grassroots are the bases and foundation on which our whole democratic system rests.

“We, as usual, will like to be a leading light to the country as we mature our democratic experience. I trust that with this type of Chairman and quality of members, this board will not only do Edo State proud but will also do the nation proud in the discharge of its responsibility”.

In his response, Chairman of EDSIEC, Mr Stanley Orobator, that the governor for the trust he has in the members of the Board.

He also assured Obaseki that the board would do all within its power to deliver on its mandate.
