The Adamawa State Government has dissolved the councils of 19 out of 21 Local Government Areas.

The state government made the announcement in a statement on Tuesday, through the Commissioner of Information and Strategy, Ahmad Sajoh.

He said the dissolution is in line with the provisions of the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 as amended and with the Local Government Councils Law No.4 of 2000 as amended.

“The tenure of the leadership of Lamurde Local Government Council will end on August 7, 2018, while that Michika Local Government Council ends March 6, 2019”.

Mr Sajoh stated that the affected officers have been directed to hand over their offices to the Heads of Service of the Local Governments.

He directed the Heads of Service to strictly adhere to all the operational guidelines issued by the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, all relevant laws and circulars relating to functions and administration of Local Government Councils in Adamawa state.

The state governor, Mohammed Jibrilla, while expressing his appreciation to the Chairmen for a successful tenure said the development brings to an end the agitation by the Local Government Chairmen for an extension of their tenure which was turned down by the Adamawa State House of Assembly.
