Niger Govt Appoints Mohammed Barau As Kontagora Emir

Niger State Government has appointed Mohammed Barau as the seventh Emir of Kontagora emirate.

The Niger State Government has appointed Mohammed Barau as the seventh Emir of the Kontagora Emirate.

The Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Emmanuel Umar, disclosed this on Wednesday during a press briefing at the Government House in Minna.

He said the decision followed a series of consultations from the kingmakers of the emirate.

The commissioner also called on the people of Kontagora to work hand in hand with the emir to ensure peaceful coexistence.

The position became vacant after the death of the former occupant of the seat, Alhaji Saidu Namaska.

The Sarkin Sudan of Kontagora, a grandson of Nagwamatse, died  on September 9 at a hospital in Abuja

His death was officially announced by the Madakin Kontagora, Aminu Ahmed, on behalf of the Kontagora Emirate.

The Sarkin Sudan Kontagora was born in 1937 and ascended to the throne in 1974.

Until his demise, Sarkin Sudan Kontagora was the longest surviving traditional ruler in northern Nigeria.
