2023 Elections: Lagos Has Been Mismanaged, I’ll Implement ‘TIGER Agenda’, Says Doherty

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) governorship candidate in Lagos State, Funsho Doherty has said his agenda will show that Lagos has been substantially under-managed.

Doherty who is in the Lagos governorship race spoke on his plans for the state during the Tuesday edition of Channels Television’s special election programme, The 2023 Verdict.

The governorship candidate argued that in the last 25 years, Lagos has not got the best, adding that his overarching “TIGER Agenda” is a medium to deliver quality of life, dignity and respect to the average Lagosian.

According to him, the current administration has failed to adequately harness the resources of Lagos, urban renewal and its infrastructure transit.

“People are not necessarily liabilities; they can also be assets. It’s a function of how you manage people, society and the economy, such that the society is prosperous and can absorb people,” he said.

In his view, money spent in each of these development areas of the state government does not equate to fully addressing the key issues, saying, “Ultimately, we measure things by the quality of life which is the outcome of governance.”

Doherty’s master plan encapsulates: Tax reform for equity and growth, Infrastructure for a mega city, Government reform, Education and health system, Rule of law and public order.

“Much of what we address in our TIGER Agenda,” he said, “is around the central question of ‘how do we manage the society in such a way that it is well governed and the actions of government are consistently with the interest of the people and substantially not of self-interest?’”

Speaking on the ideology of the ADC, he said it is built around inclusive governance, capturing the interest of the people and translating the benefit of governance broadly around the society.

The governorship candidate urged Lagosians to think carefully when voting, stressing the need to “evaluate the manifesto of every candidate, the party and their track record.”
