A support group of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State has blamed former Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi and the governorship candidate of the party, Tonye Cole, for the crisis rocking the party in the state.

This is as the group called on the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party to immediately dissolve the Executive Committee of the party in the state to save the party from total collapse.

The group which goes by the name The Upper Echelon was involved in the mobilisation of youths for the party in the March 18 governorship and state assembly elections.

Its President, Lucky Ottos who led other leaders to a media briefing in Port Harcourt said the recent division among the state executive members is not healthy for a party that is struggling to move on after the past crisis that caused it a major political setback.

Ottos blamed the “toxic posture” of Amaechi and the party’s governorship candidate, Tonye Cole for the woes of the APC in Rivers State.

One such posture according to him is the alleged support for the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar.

He said the alleged anti-party activity technically denies Amaechi and Cole the right to be members of the APC.

The group also warned against the breakdown of law and order in the state following disagreements over the inspection of electoral materials.

It urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to be neutral and allow for a joint inspection of the documents.

It also called on the police to be vigilant and not allow those it refers to as retired politicians to plunge the state into anarchy.

The APC support group, however, endorsed the outcome of the February 25 presidential and National Assembly elections and the March 18 governorship and state assembly elections conducted in the state.
