There are reports that the Seychelles government has banned Nigerian passport holders from visiting the country on holiday and tourism.

The information was reportedly corroborated by the country’s border security which confirmed the decision but could give no further information.

One travel content creator raised the alarm on Saturday evening, after receiving a rejection email, which he shared on Twitter.

It read: ‘We regret to inform you that your application has been declined, as per immigration regulation, for now, we are not accepting any Nigerian passport holder for holiday purposes.’

The purported ban, which has drawn reactions from Nigerians on social media, comes seven months after Nigeria and Seychelles signed a pact for direct flights with the countries.

Both countries already had a long-standing visa-free agreement with Seychelles which allows Nigerian citizens free entry without a visa.

Messages sent to the permanent secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Adamu Lamuwa, have yet to receive a response.
