The 48th National Executive Council (NEC) meeting of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) is holding in Lafia, Nasarawa State, with the National President, Aminu Mu’azu Maifata presiding over the gathering.

The meeting has drawn a large attendance of stakeholders from across the country, although the agenda for the meeting was not published.

However, sources close to the association indicated that the recent Supreme Court judgement granting autonomy to local governments in Nigeria is likely to be a major topic of discussion.

This meeting followed a successful transition of power within ALGON, which took place on March 21st during the 47th NEC meeting in Abuja. During that meeting, former National President Alabi David handed over the reins to Maifata, who is also the Executive Chairman of Lafia Local Government Area in Nasarawa State.

The meeting had in attendance other key officials, including the newly appointed Director General, Itiako Ikpokpo, as well as the Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Chief Odunayo Ategbero, and other principal officers.

In a show of solidarity, the leadership of ALGON paid a courtesy visit to the Nasarawa State Government, led by the Deputy Governor, Emmanuel Akabe, at the Ministry of Local Governments and Chieftaincy Affairs.
