The Lagos Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat has explained how the state works to ensure food sufficiency and said part of it is partnering with other states.
Hamzat was a guest on Channels Television’s special Independence Day programme which was held on Tuesday.
“We have arrangements with other states in terms of partnership. We have land in Osun State, and we have an agreement with Niger State,” he said.
“But because of the insurgency, the paddies were not produced enough. So, that’s part of the challenge that we have.”

“So, for Lagos, our area [interest] is training people and empowering the people who get involved in agriculture – a lot of our women across Badagry to Ikorodu,” Hamzat said.
He said, “We identified areas where we have a competitive advantage – fisheries, for example, tomato, surprisingly.
“So, what we do is ask, ‘How do we empower them?’ ‘How do we make it easier for them in terms of production?’But most importantly, we are building a logistic hub in Imota, the biggest in this part of the world,” the deputy governor said, adding that it allows the state to track the agricultural produce coming into the country’s commercial backbone.
