President Bola Tinubu on Thursday said he had authorised a personnel audit and skills gap analysis across the Federal Civil Service to deepen the capacity of federal workers in the country.

Tinubu disclosed this at the International Civil Service Conference at the Eagles Square in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory.

The President said that Nigeria could only guarantee a high-performance culture it deserved by placing the right people in the right roles.

He, therefore, urged the relevant stakeholders to ensure the timely completion of the exercise to begin the implementation of targeted reforms and the realisation of the full benefits to improve the civil service.

“We can only guarantee the high-performance culture our country deserves by placing the right people in the right roles.

“To this end, I have authorised the comprehensive personnel audit and skill gap analysis across the Federal Civil Service to deepen capacity.

“I urge all responsible stakeholders to prioritise the timely completion of this critical exercise, to begin implementing targeted reforms and realise the full benefits of a more agile, competent, and responsive civil service,” he said.

According to him, the civil service is a central platform for delivering national transformation and the renewed hope agenda, adding that the role of civil servants in the transformation is indispensable.

He said that the new minimum wage, consequential adjustment to salaries arising from the new minimum wage, and the approval of the Pension Bond Scheme, among others, were policies that reflected his administration’s recognition of a committed workforce.

Tinubu said that innovation was critical to making the Nigerian civil service globally competitive to meet the needs of today and the future.

He said that accurate and secure data, which he described as the “new oil,” is the lifeblood of every reform pursued by his administration.

“Data is the new oil, and like new oil, its value increases the more it is refined and responsibly shared. I, therefore, direct all ministries, extra-ministerial departments, and agencies to capture information rigorously, safeguard it under the Nigerian Data Protection Act of 2023, release it usefully for public value, and ensure the highest data protection and privacy standards,” the President added.

He also said that Nigeria was committed to partnerships that transcended national boundaries to harness technology and elevate the civil service as a beacon of hope and progress for all nations.

“The maiden conference today with the theme, “Rejuvenate, Innovate and Accelerate,” is timely, apt, and compelling. It captures our collective ambition to re-imagine and reposition the civil service.

“In today’s rapid, evolving world of technology, innovation remains critical in ensuring that the civil service is dynamic, digital, ethical, and a globally competitive institution. An innovative civil service ensures that we meet today’s needs and overcome tomorrow’s challenges,” he added.
