The North-West geo-political zone in the Senate has fixed 18th and 19th July as the new dates for its zonal public hearing on the ongoing constitution review exercise.

Zonal public hearings for the review were held across the remaining five geo-political zones of the country on 4 and 5 July.

However, the session for the North West, originally scheduled to be held in Kano, the Kano State capital, was suspended by the Senate during plenary last week Tuesday.

The postponement followed the mourning period declared in honour of the late Alhaji Aminu Dantata, who died in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, on Saturday, 28 June, and was buried in Madina, Saudi Arabia, on Monday, 30 June.

The announcement of the new dates was made by the Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau Jibrin, during plenary on Wednesday.

Senator Barau, who presided over the session, urged all Senators from the 21 senatorial districts in the zone to participate actively and mobilise their constituents to attend the public hearing, describing it as a vital opportunity for citizens’ input.

In the statement signed by him as Chairman of the Senate Committee on Constitution Review, the Deputy Senate President also encouraged Nigerians in the zone to submit memoranda on the areas of the constitution they wish to see amended.
