Expect Rain In Lagos, Flood Risks In Bauchi, Others On Monday – NiMET

 

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has released a fresh weather forecast for Monday, August 4, 2025, warning of thunderstorms and varying intensities of rainfall across several regions of the country.

The update, posted on NiMet’s official X (formerly Twitter) handle, highlighted expected weather conditions in northern, central, and southern parts of Nigeria and included flood alerts for high-risk areas.

According to the forecast, early morning thunderstorms with moderate rainfall are expected to dominate the northern states in parts of Adamawa, Taraba, Sokoto, Kebbi, Zamfara, Jigawa, Kano, and Katsina States.

In the afternoon and evening, widespread thunderstorms were predicted across the entire northern region.

The agency also raised flood alerts for Adamawa, Taraba, and Bauchi states, warning residents to be vigilant and take preventive measures against likely water accumulation and runoff.

In the central region, light morning rains are expected in Benue, Niger, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Kogi, and Nasarawa states.

By afternoon and evening, rainfall is likely to continue across Nasarawa, Kwara, Kogi, Plateau, Niger, Benue, and the FCT.

For the southern states, NiMET said that cloudy skies and light to moderate morning rains were expected across Ebonyi, Enugu, Imo, Anambra, Abia, Ogun, Edo, Delta, Lagos, Rivers, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, and Bayelsa.

Later in the afternoon and evening, light to moderate rainfall is expected over Abia, Imo, Ebonyi, Anambra, Osun, Ogun, Oyo, Ondo, Ekiti, Edo, Delta, Bayelsa, Rivers, Lagos, Cross River, and Akwa Ibom States.

NiMet also identified Oyo, Ogun, Edo, and Delta States as having a high flood risk, urging communities in those areas to stay alert and observe early signs of flooding.

 

 

NiMet had earlier released a forecast for Sunday, August 3, signaling widespread storms.

Thunderstorms with moderate rainfall were reported across the Northern region in states like Adamawa, Taraba, Borno, Yobe, Bauchi, and Gombe during the morning, with extended activity later in the day reaching Kebbi, Kano, Katsina, Zamfara, Jigawa, Kaduna, and others.

In the Central region, light rains were recorded in parts of the FCT, Niger, Kwara, Kogi, Nasarawa, and Benue in the morning, followed by additional showers in the afternoon across Plateau and surrounding states.

Southern states experienced cloudy conditions and scattered light rains across Ebonyi, Enugu, Ondo, Ogun, Oyo, Akwa Ibom, Cross River, Rivers, and Bayelsa in the morning, with rainfall extending to Delta, Edo, Ekiti, Imo, and others by evening.

 

‘Take Precaution’

 

NiMet advised the public to take precautions against strong winds, lightning, and localised flooding, particularly in areas prone to thunderstorms.

Farmers, commuters, and event planners were also encouraged to follow NiMet’s daily updates to help with planning and safety.
