Streamer and entertainer Carter Efe caused a stir on Saturday night after he humorously confronted singer Berri Tiga for performing their joint hit Machala during Shallipopi’s Plutomania Live in Concert at Iconiq Fest 2025 in Lagos.

The moment occurred at the Landmark Event Centre during the closing stretch of Shallipopi’s headline set, where Berri Tiga took the stage to perform Machala, one of the biggest street anthems of 2022.

As the song played, Carter Efe suddenly joined them on stage and asked the DJ to stop the music.

Addressing Berri Tiga in front of the cheering crowd, Carter Efe said, “You have the mind to perform my song. Why didn’t you call me? Are you the owner of the song?”

The exchange instantly drew loud reactions from fans, many of whom recalled the duo’s past fallout over the track.

Moments later, the tension eased as both artistes laughed it off and went on to perform Machala together, confirming the exchange was done in jest.

The pair had put their long-running issues behind them.

The dispute dominated conversations within the music industry, especially after the song was temporarily removed from streaming platforms amid copyright claims.

Although the track was later restored, the controversy became a defining example of the risks of unclear intellectual property agreements in Afrobeats.
