Kebbi Govt Denies Involvement In ADC Leadership Crisis

The Kebbi State Government has denied allegations linking it to the ongoing legal dispute between two factional chairmen of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in the state.

The denial was contained in a press statement issued on Tuesday by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Ahmed Idris, and made available to journalists in Birnin Kebbi.

According to the statement, the government distanced itself from media reports suggesting its involvement in the matter.

“Our attention has been drawn to publications in newspapers of Monday, April 20, 2026, alleging that the Kebbi State Government is behind the court case between two factional ADC chairmen in the state.

“We wish to categorically state that the Kebbi State Government is neither a member of the ADC nor does it have any affiliation with the party,” the statement partly read.

The government noted that the ADC had been facing a prolonged leadership crisis, which resulted in the emergence of rival factions and subsequent legal action.

“The ADC has been embroiled in a leadership tussle for a long time. It is this same crisis that led the two factional leaders to court, with both factions claiming supremacy.

“This is not an APC affair but an internal dispute within the ADC, which requires internal mechanisms for resolution rather than casting unfounded accusations on others,” the statement noted.

Meanwhile, the chairman of the ADC in Kebbi State, Abdulrasak Abubakar, has taken his rival, Safiyyanu Bala, before a chief magistrate’s court sitting in Birnin Kebbi over an alleged contempt of court.
