Lawyer Faults Okowa’s Emergence, Claims Ned Nwoko Won APC Delta North Senatorial Primary

A lawyer, Chris Okobah, has faulted the emergence of a former governor, Ifeanyi Okowa, as the All Progressives Congress Delta North senatorial candidate, alleging that incumbent Senator Ned Nwoko won the primary.

Okobah said this during an interview on Channels Television’s The Morning Brief on Friday.

“Ned Nwoko scored 135,000 votes and beat Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa in a landslide. Not only did he defeat him, but he also defeated him in a landslide. In my ward alone, Ward 2, he scored about 2,000 votes. Almost 90 per cent of the voters queued up to vote for him.

“They didn’t even send members of the panel; they sent commissioners, an executive assistant to the governor, senior special adviser to the governor. When these people got there, saw the huge crowd chanting Ned Nwoko’s name, they entered their car and drove away,” he alleged.

His comments come after the just-concluded APC senatorial primary in Delta North. The party said Okowa polled 113,309 votes, while Ned Nwoko scored 2,612 votes and Mariam Ali, 40 votes.

The lawyer, however, claimed that people came out en masse to vote for Nwoko.

“I witnessed a huge turnout, but to say that Ned Nwoko scored 3,000 or 6,000 votes is what I can describe as a complete misinterpretation of facts,” he added.

Okobah also dismissed claims by the Delta State Commissioner for Public Information, Charles Aniagwu, that Nwoko never consulted stakeholders.

“Ned Nwoko did an absolute consultation with the members of his constituents, not with the bourgeoisie. Ned Nwoko consults with his constituents, with the grassroots, with those he represents, and I contact him just like he is in contact with them”.

The lawyer said what Aniagwu said was a gross exaggeration of the facts.
