Gombe State government and the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Gombe State University branch have reached an agreement, meaning an end in sight to weeks of strike action over a number of demands presented by the union.

The lecturers union had declared a total, comprehensive, and indefinite strike on the 11th of September 2024, bringing all academic activities to a halt.

However, a series of meetings with the state government saw the approval of a total of N947 million at the executive council meeting presided over by Governor Inuwa Yahaya on Thursday, the 17th of October 2024, aimed at offsetting staff promotions and earned academic allowances (EAA).

With the impasse at the cusps of getting resolved, academic activities are set to resume in a few days as all machinery for the reopening of the university is already set in motion.

Speaking on behalf of Governor Yahaya, his deputy Manassah Jatau, expressed confidence that the truce reached through the signing of documents by both parties would foster greater synergy for uninterrupted teaching and learning in the state-owned university.
