Taraba Assembly Speaker, 15 Others Dump PDP For APC

The defection is in the wake of the intention of the State Governor, Agbu Kefas, to join the APC on Wednesday, November 19, 2025.

Members of the Taraba State House of Assembly elected under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party and those who joined the PDP recently have dumped the party for the All Progressives Congress.

Among the defectors is the Speaker of the House, John Kizito.

The defection, according to the members, was because of the unending rancour in the PDP at the national level and the need to align with the centre for federal presence in Taraba.

The defection is in the wake of the intention of the State Governor, Agbu Kefas, to join the APC on Wednesday, November 19, 2025.

With the defection, the 24 members of the state assembly are all on the platform of the APC.

Speaking during an inspection of the ongoing renovation of the Jolly Nyame Stadium—the proposed venue for the defection ceremony—the governor said his decision to switch parties was motivated by the interests and future of Taraba residents rather than personal gain.

“On November 19, I will officially transition from PDP to APC. This movement is about the destiny of the people of Taraba, and we are expecting many visitors for the ceremony,” he said.

When asked whether there were any conditions set by the APC for his defection, the governor said his speech at the event would clarify the circumstances and allow residents to judge for themselves.

Members of the state executive council, represented by the State Commissioner for Science and Technology, Muslim Aruwa, also expressed full support for the governor.
