Obiano Promises To Tackle Akpo Community’s Infrastructural Challenges

anambra state, properties destroyed, Ukpo, Abagana, land disputeAnambra State Governor, Willie Obiano, has assured the people of Akpo community in Aguata Local Government Area of his commitment to tackling some of the critical infrastructural projects in the community.

He believes such projects will make life more meaningful for them, but said it would begin as soon as the Federal Government released the 4.5 billion Naira it owed the state.

The Governor spoke on Saturday during the grand reception organised for him by the Akpo people where they also give an overwhelming endorsement to his leadership style and pledged their support for the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA).

They said his political party was the vehicle for onward transformation of Anambra state beyond the governor’s first term in office.

It was like a homecoming for Governor Obiano, when he arrived in Akpo community.

Exchange of pleasantries with the chieftains of the APGA was a spectacle to behold, as happiness and laughter flowed freely.

The excited traditional ruler, red cap chiefs and the members of the community, who trooped out in their hundreds to welcome the Governor in his maiden visit to their community also enjoyed a fair share of handshakes of love from him.

Traditional dancers and Akpo Choir with a special anthem also joined in welcoming the Governor.

In an address of welcome, the President General of the town, Mr Godwin Ezeno, congratulated the Governor for the mile stones he had achieved in his quest to transform Anambra State within two years as well the vigour with which he had pursued his four administrative blueprint of Agriculture, trade and commerce, oil and gas and industrialisation.

For this, they endorsed him as the best and pledge loyalty and support for him and APGA, as the 2017 governorship election in the state approaches.

The people appealed to the Governor for intervention in road construction, renovation of the community’s secondary school, rural electrification, as well as government appointments.

They showered the Governor with gifts and for a practical show and proof of support to the Governor by Akpo people, a certificate of endorsement was also presented to the Governor.

The highly elated Governor assured Akpo community of his commitment to ensuring that immediate intervention came in road infrastructure and the renovation of their school as soon as the Federal Government released monies it owed the state.

Governor Obiano commended the residents of the community for choosing agriculture and for the 20 million Naira project the state government would undertake in each of the 177 communities of Anambra state.

In his reaction to the development, the former National Chairman of APGA, Victor Umeh, expressed joy at the turn of event in Anambra State and said it was a clear indication that APGA government was working to bring the dividends of democracy to the people which is commendable.

The Akpo community declaration of support for Governor Willie Obiano and APGA is coming on the heels of several other communities’ declarations which have positive implication on the fortunes of the present administration as the 2017 governorship election beckons in Anambra state.

FG Relocates 47 Boko Haram Prisoners From Ekwulobia Prison

Boko HaramThe Federal Government has moved 47 Boko Haram prisoners in Ekwulobia Prison in Aguata Local Government Area of Anambra State.

Briefing reporters at the Governor’s Lodge, Amawbia on Thursday, the State Governor, Willie Obiano, flanked by the leadership of the traditional institution, church and market leaders, expressed gratitude to President Muhammadu Buhari and the Vice President, Yemi Osibanjo, for their cooperation in the matter that threw the state into disarray for weeks.

Governor Obiano also commended the citizens of the state for their patience and belief in him to ensure an end to the matter.

He urged them to keep supporting both the state and Federal Government as they continue to work towards citizens’ well being.

The prisoners, according to the Governor, were relocated out of the state on Tuesday.

The All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) had on July 13, urged the Federal Government to urgently move the 47 Boko Haram inmates recently relocated to Ekwulobia Minimum Prison in Anambra.

The party’s National Chairman, Dr Victor Ike Oye, asked the government to move the inmates to a more secure facility outside the state or take them back to where they were moved from.

Traders in Nigeria’s South-east also shut down markets in Anambra, Enugu, Imo, Abia and Ebonyi states in protest of the continued stay of the dreaded Boko Haram prisoners in the region.

The protest came despite the assurance by the Anambra State Governor, Willie Obiano, after a security meeting with a 7-man delegation from the National Security Adviser, that the 47 Boko Haram detainees at Ekwulobia prison would be moved out of the state soon.

Auto Accident Kills 11 In AnambraEleven people have been confirmed dead following an accident involving a trailer in a community in Aguata Local Government Area of Anambra State, South-east Nigeria.

It was gathered that the trailer, fully loaded with timber, lost control and rammed into stationary vehicles and a crowd of traders at a market in Umuchu town.

The accident left nine males and two females dead, while 21 others were injured. Four of the injured were said to be in critical conditions.

Anambra State Governor, Willie Obiano, has visited the site and commiserated with the traditional ruler, Godson Ezechukwu and the people of the community.

He also visited the injured victims in the two hospitals where they were admitted and promised to bear the costs of their treatment.

Obiano Says Meeting With NSA Delegation Was SuccessfulThe Anambra State Governor has announced a successful outcome of the security meeting held with a 7-man delegation from the National Security Adviser (NSA).

Governor Willie Obiano made the declaration shortly after a closed door meeting with his visitors and other stakeholders on Wednesday at the Governor’s Lodge in Awka, the Anambra State capital, Southeast Nigeria.

He revealed that the Boko Haram detainees at Ekwulobia Prison in Aguata Local Government Area of the state would soon be relocated out of Anambra.

Governor Obiano observed that the outcry by various organisations and institutions in the state in the last few days portrayed how scared the people were, but with the reassurances from the delegation of imminent relocation of the prisoners, all will be well in the state.

Amongst the stakeholders in attendance at the security meeting were traditional rulers, religious leaders, town union executives and market leaders.

In the meantime, the Nigerian Army has granted freedom to 182 suspected Boko Haram members detained in military facilities in Maiduguri, the Borno State’s capital, in accordance with the military authority’s pledge to carry out its operations within the law.

Anambra Assembly Poll: Voters Revolt Over Stolen Result Sheet

anambra state-voters revolt on electionThe House of Assembly re-run in 32 wards and 500 polling units in Anambra State has been conducted amidst complaints of electoral fraud and malpractice.

Several inconsistencies during the April 11 House of Assembly election led to the cancellation of the poll in 32 wards and 500 polling units spread across Anaocha, Aguata and Ekwusigo Local Government Areas.

At a primary school in Egbema Ozubulu, Ekwusigo Local Government Area, where there were three polling units with over 500 registered voters each, accreditation with the card reader was successful. Though, the turnout of voters was not impressive.

The situation was not the same at Umuoru Hall in Uga ward 1. The center had five polling units but voters were at daggers drawn fracas with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) officials who they asked to produce the result sheets.

The suspicion of the missing result sheets was created by the two Supervising Presiding Officers posted to the unit who suddenly disappeared with their cell phones switched off.

The people accused some of the political heavy weights in the community, who they felt were battling for supremacy, as responsible for the electoral fraud.

Uga ward 1 had 25 polling units. The incumbent Senator representing the Anambra South senatorial zone, Senator Andy Uba, as well as the incumbent member of the House of Assembly, Honorable Ikechukwu Umeh, were both registered voters in the ward and are in different political parties.

As the war raged on, many voters left while some in polling unit 023 continued with accreditation.

However, the Presiding officer succumbed to the intense pressure of cancelling the election in Umuoru as the calls he put across to his superiors ended with him writing a report on the election that couldn’t hold due to disruption by party agents.

While voting was successfully done at polling unit 005 at St Peters, voters at Umumonye Hall did not see any INEC official or ballot materials and they were not given any reason for the disenfranchisement.
