Kaduna APC Passes Vote of Confidence On Buhari, El-Rufai

APC National Chairman Assures Citizens Of Stable LeadershipThe enlarged caucus of the All Progressive Congress (APC), in Kaduna state, has passed a vote of confidence on President Muhammadu Buhari and the Kaduna state governor, Nasir El-Rufai for their policy directions and style of governance.

These were parts of resolutions reached at the end of a meeting of the state caucus, held in the state capital.

The essence of the meeting was to appraise the performance of the APC led administration in delivering good governance to the people in the state, and discuss issues facing the party and how to move it forward.

The caucus dismissed insinuations that there was division among its members, but insisted that they are united and therefore won’t be distracted by those who hide under guise of criticism to pull down the APC government in the state.

In attendance at the meeting are all the major stakeholders of the party in the state including members of the state exco of the party, Governor El-Rufai and his deputy, Bala Bantex, Speaker of the Kaduna state House of Assembly, Aminu Shagali, the Senator representing Kaduna North, Otman Hunkuyi, National Assembly Members as well as local government and ward executives among others.

Briefing journalists after the meeting, governor El-Rufai’s Special Adviser on Political Matters and Inter Governmental relations, Uba Sani, maintained that the era of paying or rewarding blackmailers is over in the state, saying the Kaduna APC has no division or faction.

Sani, stressed that the present government under governor El-Rufai, is transforming the state and not to share money to politicians who criticize or blackmail for settlements.

“Kaduna state APC caucus meeting was well attended by governor Nasir El-Rufai, Deputy governor, Bala Yusuf Bantex, Senator representing Kaduna North zone, Suleiman Hunkuyi, the entire State House of Assembly leadership and members.

“All members of the caucus are here. We discussed the progress of our party and all our discussions went well.

“In Kaduna state, we have only one APC, we discussed on how to reposition the party for service delivery to the people of Kaduna State”, Sani expressed.

The stakeholders, including Speaker of Kaduna state House of Assembly, Aminu Shagali, said that they would remain united and ensure that the APC emerges victorious in the forthcoming local government election slated for July 2017.

They also commended governor El-Rufai for his memo to President Buhari which they note was done in good faith and aimed at moving the nation forward.

“Our elders also gave us useful suggestions; we don’t have any faction or division in Kaduna State APC.

“Our party leadership at ward level to state is intact, so we don’t have faction. You know this government does not settle or pay people for settlements. We are not going to settle anybody who disagrees or criticize the government.

“The governor has told us clearly and he was elected to develop Kaduna State and not to share money. In Kaduna State, even a blind man knows that there is transformation going on in the state”.

With four months to the local government election in the state, stakeholders at this meeting said they would not be distracted by any group whose interest would be to cause crisis in the party.

OndoDecides: PDP Presents Early Observations In Conduct Of Election

ondo-election-ondodecidesThe Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has presented series of what it called ‘early observations’ from the conduct of the Ondo State governorship election.

The ruling party in the state claims that there are several irregularities and poor preparations on the part of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as well as men and officers of the Nigerian Police and other security agencies.

A statement by the party’s spokesman, Dayo Adeyeye, said that voters in several parts of the State had suffered several incidents of Card Reader failures.

“Despite the fact that INEC owns more than xxx units of Card Readers, in several locations there are no back up Card Readers. As such, many voters are already being deprived of the right to cast a vote for the candidate of their choice,” the statement read.

‘Plots To Rig’

Explaining further, the party claimed that the Polling Unit of Governor Olusegun Mimiko suffered Card Reader failure at his Polling Unit – Ward 7 Unit 20 Ondo West Local Government Area – that has prevented voters from casting their votes.

It said: “In Ward 2 of Akure South Local Government Area, Tunji Light-Ariyo, a known Chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) was recorded campaigning and canvassing for votes for the APC candidate – Mr Rotimi Akeredolu – at PUs 28, 29, and 30 in spite of the prohibition of such actions by the Electoral Act 2010 (as amended).

“The recording of this event also clearly show several police officers and men of other security agencies standing by and doing nothing while this was going on,” the party further alleged.

According to the PDP the video shows that the policemen were providing security cover for him.

The party pointed out that the incidents were violations of the law and evidence of the plots to rig the elections in favour of Mr Akeredolu.

“We reiterate our earlier warnings that we will not stand by and watch anyone tamper with the democratic process and subvert the will of the Ondo people,” the PDP added.

Electorates in the state are voting in the governorship election to elect among 28 contestants a successor for incumbent Governor Mimiko.

The PDP and its candidate, Mr Eyitayo Jegede, had on Thursday called for the postponement of the election to enable their candidate prepare campaign for the election, but the INEC said it had made everything needed for the election ready and would go ahead with the election.

No Evidence Of Sexual Misconduct Against Lawmakers – Foreign Affairs Minister

Sexual MisconductThe Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr Geoffrey Onyeama, says there is no evidence to confirm the allegations of sexual misconduct made against three lawmakers of the House of Representatives.

The Minister put forward this position when he appeared before the joint House of Representatives Committee investigating allegations of sexual misconduct brought against three members of the House.

The Minister’s presentation is based on an interaction he had with the United States Ambassador to Nigeria, James Entwistle, concerning a letter he wrote to the Speaker of the House of Representatives.

The Committee met with the Minister after it heard from the three lawmakers who denied the allegations brought against them.

The Minister on Wednesday failed to appear before the joint committee investigating the matter.

It was the second time the Minister and the US Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr James Entwistle, have failed to appear before the Committee.

The Minster, in a letter to the Committee, said that the time for the investigative hearing coincides with the Federal Executive Council meeting in the Presidential Villa.

The Committee had adjourned the meeting last week after another letter from the Minister said he would be away in Kigali, Rwanda for the extra ordinary meeting of the African Union and asked for another date.

PDP Crisis: Makarfi Committee Accuses Sheriff Of Working For APC

PDP
Sen. Ali Modu-Sheriff

The Senator Ahmed Makarfi-led Care Taker Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is accusing Senator Ali-Modu Sheriff who took over the party’s secretariat on Monday of working for the All Progressive Congress (APC).

Spokesperson for the PDP Caretaker Committee, Mr Dayo Adeyeye told journalists at a press conference in Abuja that the party intelligence reports confirms that the embattled chairman of the party is working for the ruling APC to disorganize it ahead of the Edo State elections.

“What we are however very certain about is that Sheriff and his fellow renegades are being used by the enemies of the PDP to destroy the party and to prevent it from reorganising itself so as to provide a credible opposition and alternative platform for the forthcoming Edo State Gubernatorial election and 2019 elections.

“The All progressives Congress (APC) has contracted Sheriff and his cohorts to scuttle the chances of the PDP in the Edo governorship elections.

“We have credible intelligence that Sheriff had a meeting on Sunday night with an APC governor from North-west, where it was agreed that he would be given full security and financial support to exacerbate the crisis in the PDP with the objective of preventing the PDP from presenting a candidate for the Edo governorship elections, or in the very least to prevent the PDP from offering a serious challenge to the APC whose electoral fortunes has continued to nose- dive,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Chief Press Secretary to Ali-Modu Sheriff, Mr Inuwa Bwala, has described the accusations as baseless.

According to him, time will tell who is being sponsored by forces outside the PDP with the sole objective of destroying the party.

Sheriff had stormed the PDP national secretariat in Abuja last Monday and declared that he remained the authentic national chairman of the party till 2018, having been sacked at the May 21 national convention of the party in Port Harcourt on ground that his tenure had expired.

In a judgment delivered by Justice Bode Rhodes-Vivour, the Apex Court held that the appeal lacked merit and substance.

The Apex Court upheld the Appellate Court’s verdict which had earlier dismissed the petition on the grounds that the APC and its governorship candidate cannot question the nomination of Governor Darius Ishaku as the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Al-Hassan had filed the appeal questioning the nomination of Darius Ishaku as the candidate of the PDP.

According to her, the PDP did not conduct primary elections to nominate its candidate as required by the law.

APC Tenders Report Of Inspected Election Materials In Akwa Ibom

APCThe All Progressive Congress (APC) and its Akwa Ibom governorship candidate in the April 11th 2015 governorship election, Mr Umana Umana, have tendered the report of their inspection and scanning of the election materials as ordered by the tribunal.

The tribunal at its proceedings took the testimony of a data analyst, who inspected the election materials.

The analyst told the tribunal that from his analysis there are indications that voting did not take place in most polling units in the state.

However, under cross-examination, he told the tribunal that the team could not carry out re-count of the ballot papers, because they were not made available for inspection.

He maintained that his analysis indicates irregularities that run contrary to the election guidelines.

While counsel to the petitioners expressed satisfaction with the testimony of the witness, the defence believes that the witness has helped the court to decide the credibility of his testimony as it relates to the case.

Meanwhile, the tribunal also admitted as an exhibit, a security report tendered by the Inspector-General of Police, who was subpoenaed by the tribunal through a legal officer from the Force Criminal Investigation Department, following a no objection plea by the defense counsels in the suit

At the resumed hearing, Counsel to the APC, Mr. Thompson Okpokor (SAN), argued that the tribunal should grant them the opportunity of providing key witnesses to tender relevant documents relating to the results of the governorship election held in Delta State.

In the same vein, Counsel to Labour Party, Dele Adesina (SAN), argued that since the tribunal, on the application of the petitioners, have issued some witness summons or subpoena to tender documents relating to the results of the election, the objections of the defendants cannot stand, hence they lack the right to object to the tendering of those documents.

But the lead counsel to the PDP and Governor Okowa, Alex Iziyon (SAN) arguing during the separate hearing, urged the tribunal not to admit the documents calling for the witnesses to come and testify, saying that the documents submitted to the tribunal are not backed up by the original petitions.

He therefore urged the tribunal to reject the petitions.

After hearing from the various parties, Chairman of the three-man panel, Justice Nasiru Gunmi, adjourned the ruling on the matter to August 21 and 22 for the APC and Labour Party respectively on whether to accept or reject the application of the petitioners.

An official of the anti-graft agency, Mr Odofin Christopher, told the Election Petition Tribunal in Abuja that an aide to the governor paid the N15 million bribe into two accounts of the State Electoral Commissioner with Diamond and Zenith Banks, three days before the governorship elections.

The petitioner and the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Adamu Waziri, are relying on the evidence of the anti-graft agency to nullify the April 11 governorship election in the state.

The petitioner is however confident that the evidence and testimony of the EFCC is a proof of his allegation of bribery before the tribunal
