The families of Daniel Abreu and Safiro Furtado will proceed with their civil lawsuits against the estate of Aaron Hernandez, despite the former NFL player’s death.

Hernandez was found dead in his prison cell on Wednesday in an apparent suicide, five days after, a jury acquitted him of killing the two men outside a Boston nightclub in 2012.

The 27-year old was a rising star in the National Football League when he was arrested in June 2013 and accused of murdering an acquaintance near his Massachusetts home.

He was convicted of that killing and sentenced to life in prison in 2015, however on Friday, he was acquitted of a separate 2012 double murder.

Bale To Miss Gijon Match

Gareth Bale has been ruled out of Real Madrid’s La Liga clash with Sporting Gijon on Saturday.

The Welshman picked up a muscular problem during Wednesday’s UEFA Champions League victory against Bayern Munich and had to be substituted.

It has now been confirmed that the 27-year-old has an issue with his right soleous muscle that could be connected to the ankle injury that was operated on in November 2016.

PFA Awards: Hazard, Kante Among Nominees

Eden Hazard and N’golo Kante have been named among the six nominees for the men’s PFA Players’ Player of the year award.

The Chelsea duo are joined by Manchester United Forward, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Tottenham Striker, Harry Kane, Everton’s Romelu Lukaku and Arsenal’s Alexis Sanchez on the full shortlist.

Leicester City winger Riyad Mahrez scooped the prize in 2016, while Hazard won the award during the 2014/15 campaign.

The 44th PFA Awards will be hold in London on Sunday, April 23, 2017.

Mascherano Warns Barcelona Against Juventus Attackers

Barcelona defender, Javier Mascherano, has cautioned his teammates against Juventus pair, Gonzalo Higuain and Paulo Dybala, ahead of Tuesday night’s UEFA Champions League quarter-final first leg tie.

Juventus will meet Barcelona for the first time since the 2015 Champions League final, when an early Ivan Rakitic strike left Massimiliano Allegri’s men with a mountain to climb before they succumbed 3­-1 in Berlin.

Barcelona will be without Sergio Busquets due to suspension, meaning Mascherano could be given a rare outing in the midfield holding role.

Neymar, as well as Rakitic and Gerard Pique, who returned to the team following a suspension against Malaga, are all one booking away from a suspension that would rule them out of the return leg.

Super Eagles Won’t Go For Holidays By End Of Season – Rohr

With most of the Leagues in Europe finishing in May and Nigeria facing South Africa on June 10, Super Eagles Technical Adviser, Gernot Rohr, says players would not be going on holidays by the end of the season.

Rohr believes the only way to get a good result in the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier, is for the team to move into camp immediately and also play two friendlies.

On the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Cameroon, he noted that the African champions stand a good chance, having played more games.

Federer To Skip Clay Court Season

After wins at Indian Wells and Miami, Roger Federer says he will skip the clay court season to rest, but will probably play the French Open.

Federer who has moved up to world number four following his win, defeated Rafael Nadal 6-3 6-4 for his third title of the year.

The 35-year-old Federer becomes the tournament’s oldest men’s champion.

He also won the Hard-Court event in 2005 and 2006.

National Basketball Association (NBA), D’Tigers forward, Al-Farouq Aminu, has scored 15 points and grabbed nine rebounds to help the Portland Trail Blazers beat the Denver Nuggets 122-113.

The 26-year-old Nigerian shot four of seven from the field and made six of his nine free throw attempts in 28 minutes of play, as Portland took a 1-game lead for 8th seed in the Western Conference.

Portland also got 32 points and 16 rebounds from former Nuggets center, Jusuf Nurkic, while C. J. McCollum added 39 points.

The Blazers would face the Houston Rockets on Thursday night.

The stand in skipper was replaced by John Ogu in the first half and Rohr said afterwards that the midfielder would require a scan to ascertain the level of damage.

Rohr also suggested that Ahmed Musa could be carrying a knock after the Leicester City forward was substituted in the 75th minute.

The Super Eagles will take on Burkina Faso on Monday as they continue preparations for the 2018 World Cup and 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

Rangers, Rivers United Get Confederation Cup Opponent

Federation Cup, enugu rangers, Rangers, Imama Amapakabo, NPFLRangers International and Rivers United, have been drawn in the last 16 of the CAF Confederation Cup.

Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) champion, Rangers, were drawn against Zesco United of Zambia.

The club crashed out of the Champions League after losing to Zamalek 5-3 on aggregate.

Rivers United would face Rayon Sports of Rwanda, following their drop to the second tier having lost to Al-Merrikh 4-3 on aggregate.

The first leg would be played on April 7 and 9, while the return leg is scheduled for April 14 and 16.

Team Nigeria Set For African Junior Championship

They are also set to qualify for the 2018 Youth Olympic Games, when the ITTF African Junior Championship serves off in Tunis on  April 9.

Four African teams would participate at the World Junior Tournament in Italy, while two countries would also represent the continent at the Youth Olympic Games in Argentina.

The Nigeria Table Tennis Federation (NTTF) said those who will represent the country would resume camping soon.

The Federation hinted that the players were part of the Olufunke Oshonaike Clinic for Junior Table Tennis Players.

He said: “its a normal changeover” after he was elected to replace Issa Hayatou, after 29 years in charge.

The 57-year-old emerged as a surprise candidate late 2016 and was initially given little chance of unseating Hayatou, who had ruled over African football since 1988.

The Malagasy beat incumbent Issa Hayatou by 34 votes to 20, to assume leadership of the continent’s soccer governing body till 2021.

Meanwhile, the Federal Government has also congratulated the President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Amaju Pinnick, on his success at the just concluded Confederation of African Football (CAF) Executive Committee elections held on Thursday in Addis Ababa.
