Gunmen Attack FC Ifeanyi Ubah Players In Kogi

 

Suspected armed robbers have attacked the players and members of the coaching crew of FC Ifeanyi Ubah (FCIU).

The Anambra-based team came under attack by gunmen dressed in National Youth Service Corps uniforms on Friday afternoon in Kogi State.

A statement from the management of FCIU explained that the team were on their way to Kano for their Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL) match against Jigawa Golden Stars before the incident occurred.

“This is to inform the general public that at about 1:30pm today, players of FC Ifeanyi Ubah (Anambra Warriors) who were travelling to Kano for their scheduled NPFL matchday 6 fixture against Jigawa Golden Stars ran into a group of armed robbers dressed in NYSC uniforms, operating at Kabba junction, near Lokoja in Kogi state,” said.

Although no life was lost in the attack, the driver of the bus was said to have been shot with some members of the coaching crew and players critically injured.

The injured persons were already being treated and were responding to treatment at a medical facility.

The club’s management called on the Federal Government and football regulatory bodies in the country – Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) and the League Management Company (LMC) – to intensify security efforts.

They asked the government to ensure the safety of teams who often have no choice than to travel long distances by road, especially clubs owned by private investors for the growth and development of football in Nigeria.

The club also urged its fans, well-wishers, and Nigerians in general to keep the entire management, coaching staff and players of FC Ifeanyi Ubah in their prayers.

NPFL: Rivers United, MFM FC Defeat OpponentsIt was a delightful match for Rivers United as they defeated defending champions Enugu Rangers on Sunday evening.

The Nigerian south-south team, who finished second last season, beat their visitors 1-0 to clinch their third win of the season.

Elsewhere, MFM FC thrashed Remo 1-0 while Akwa United beat El-Kanemi Warriors 1-0 at the Nest of Champions in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State capital.

Sunshine Stars also defeated Wikki Tourists 1-0, just as the clash between ABS FC and Katsina United ended in same score line.

Also, Lobi Stars beat visiting Gombe United 1-0; Niger defeated Nasarawa 2-0 while Kano Pillars recorded the biggest feat with a 3-1 win against Enyimba International.

Meanwhile, the game between FC Ifeanyi Ubah and Abia Warriors ended 2-2 while Shooting Stars held league leaders Plateau United to a 1-1 draw.

Sunshine Stars Defeat Rivers United In NPFL ClashTroubled Sunshine Stars put aside their financial crisis to beat high-flying Rivers United 1-0 on Sunday.

The Ondo-based club clinched the victory in a match day 10 tie of the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) played at the Akure Township Stadium.

Former Enyimba Midfielder, Ayo Saka, pulled a belter from 14 yards to hand the Owena Waves their win of the season.

The result moved Sunshine Stars six places to the 11th position with 12 points on the table.

Meanwhile, Prince Aggreh scored from the penalty spot as FC Ifeanyi Ubah defeated league leaders, Plateau United 1-0 in Nnewi, Anambra State.

Chinedu Udoji’s first-half header also earned Kano Pillars a lone victory over neighbours, Katsina United.

In a similar development, Lobi Stars came from behind to beat seven-time champions, Enyimba with goals from Anthony Okpotu and former Enyimba Midfielder, David Tyavkase.

Niger Tornadoes maintained a perfect home record after a 1-0 win over struggling Gombe United in Lokoja.

El-Kanemi warriors also stunned Nasarawa United 2-0  with two second half goals while ABS FC edged past Wikki Tourists 1-0.

Fc Ifeanyi Ubah impressively converted all their kicks, while their keeper Uche Okafor saved one from Nasarawa United.

The Nnewi club, will now represent Nigeria in the 2017 CAF Confederation Cup.

It was the first time these two clubs would play in the final of the oldest football competition in Nigeria.

FC Ifeanyi Ubah defeated giant killers, Crown FC 2-1 while Nasarawa United shocked tournament favorites, Enyimba FC 1-0 to set the tone for an epic final.

Rivers Angels earlier emerged champions of the 2016 Federation Cup in the women’s final against Bayelsa United.

Federation Cup Final To Be Played On November 6

Rivers Angels and Bayelsa Queens will lock horns in the women’s finals which kicks off by 1pm.

While the much-anticipated final between Ifeanyi Ubah Football Club and Nasarawa United will also take place at same venue with the match expected to start at 3.30pm.

Lagos state has hosted the last five finals of the Federation Cup.

Nasarawa United shocked defending champions Enyimba to make it into their dream final, while FC Ifeanyi Ubah defeated giant killers Crown FC 2-1 in Kaduna.

Winners in the Federation Cup get to represent Nigeria in Africa’s second tier club competition, the CAF Confederation Cup.

NPFL: Abia Warriors Vow To ‘Fight’ Wikki In Bauchi

wikki tourists, NPFL, Abia WarriorsAbia Warriors Football Club of Umuahia striker, Chinenye Agoha, has declared that they will give Wikki Tourists a run for their money when they clash in this weekend’s matchday 28 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) encounter at the Abubakar Tafewa Balewa Stadium in Bauchi.

Agoha, who scored the only goal in Abia Warriors’ 1-0 victory over visiting Warri Wolves last Sunday in Umuahia, said the win was a sign of better days ahead.

“We had some bad results in the recent past mainly because of the injury which hit many of our key players but we have overcome that now and ready to re-establish ourselves as one of the best in Nigeria”, Agoha, a mid-season signing said.

According to the Afugiri, Umuahia-born hitman who joined Abia Warriors from Giwa FC of Jos, the players have made up their minds to fight for a good result in Bauchi this weekend.

“We know Wikki is good this season, we are also good and that is why fans should expect good football this weekend”, he said.

Agoha, who was one of the players released by the League Management Company (LMC) to join a club of their choice after Giwa was thrown out of the league for not honouring three matches earlier this season, said he has already warned his captain and friend at Giwa, Charles Henlong who is now with Wikki Tourists to get ready for him as Abia Warriors were not in Bauchi on a picnic but on a serious business.

He said that he was pleased the way the league is being run now as anybody can pick points anywhere without any incidents and commended the LMC and the referees for a job well done so far.

Federation Cup: Round of 16 Matches Postponed

Federation Cup, NFFThe Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has postponed matches of the Round of 16 of the 2016 Men Federation Cup competition as well as the quarter–final matches of the women competition due to the Eid-el-Fitri celebrations.

After the Federal Government announcement on Friday that there would be public holidays on Tuesday, 5th July and Wednesday, 6th July for the Eid-el-Fitri celebrations, the NFF had to reschedule the Round of 16 matches of the men’s competition and the quarter final matches of the women’s event for Tuesday, 12th July and Wednesday, 13th July 2016.

Sunshine Stars of Akure go up against Akwa United in Makurdi on Tuesday, 12th July as Crown FC of Ogbomosho and Enugu Rangers go for a tug in Kaduna on the same day.

In–form Rivers United and five–time champions Shooting Stars will now battle at the Ahmadu Bello Stadium, Kaduna on Wednesday, 13th July, as Wikki Tourists of Bauchi confront Plateau United in Akure in other all –NPFL clashes.

NPFL side FC IfeanyiUbah will take on Katsina United at the Kwara Sports Complex, Ilorin on Wednesday, 13th July while Nasarawa United will test might with Dynamite FC of Benin City at the Confluence Stadium, Lokoja on the same day as Warri Wolves are up against Prime FC of Oshogbo at the Aper Aku Stadium, Makurdi.

The postponed Round of 32 clash between Enyimba FC and El-Kanemi Warriors will come up in Abuja on Wednesday, 13th July, keeping Round of 16 opponents J. Atete on holiday.

Samson Siasia Criticises Eagles’ Defeat To National U-23

SiasiaCoach Samson Siasia is not pleased with the home-based Super Eagles’ defeat to the National Under-23 team in the second test game between both sides in Abuja.

The Nigeria U-23s avenged a 2-0 defeat they suffered on Tuesday by beating the senior team by same score line-width.

Siasia said that the players still need to work more ahead of the crucial two-leg qualifier against the Pharaohs of Egypt.

The home-based eagles are intensifying preparations for the African Cup of Nations qualifier against Egypt, while the Olympic team would face Brazil in a friendly, later this month.

Home-based Eagles Beat U-23 Team 2-0 In Test Match

EaglesHome-based Eagles have intensified preparations for the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier.

This is coming after the Eagles defeated the National Under-23 team 2-0 in a test game played on Wednesday in Abuja.

The Eagles are preparing for an AFCON double-header against Egypt on March 25 and 29, while the U-23 team are also getting set to battle Rio Olympics hosts, Brazil in a friendly on March 24.

FC Ifeanyi Ubah forward, Bright Onyedikachi, opened scoring for the Eagles, before Godwin Obaje doubled the tally.

The selected home-based players for the Egypt matches would move to the match venue of Kaduna on March 20, where they would be joined by the 21 foreign-based professionals invited for the qualifiers by caretaker coach, Samson Siasia.

Sunshine Stars Sack Unuanel and Abiodun

Sunshine StarsThe Ondo State Football Agency has sacked the Chief Coach of Sunshine Stars, Samson Unuanel and the club’s technical director, Henry Abiodun.

The agency said Unuanel and Abiodun were relieved of their jobs owing to internal wrangling within the team which had affected the performance of the players this season.

They announced that Kayode Olujoungbe would take charge of the team pending the appointment of a substantive coach.

Sunshine Stars become the second club to sack their coach after Heartland did same to Bethel Orji on Sunday.

The former Sunshine Stars coach’s dismissal came after he said the team gave a good fight despite the 2-1 loss to new comers MFM FC.

In his post-match press conference, Unuanel had expressed confidence that his side would bounce back from their defeat and focus on the next game against FC Ifeanyi Ubah on Sunday.
