The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has asked Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti State not to relent in defending his people and the common man in the country.
Pastor Adeboye made the demand on Saturday in Ado Ekiti, the capital of the state during his tour of states in Nigeria as part of the church’s annual ‘let’s go a fishing” programme.
The cleric urged state governors to emulate governor Fayose’s leadership style by defending their people.
He said: “Governor Fayose, I must commend you for your leadership style and relentless effort in fighting for the course of the common man in Nigeria”.
Pastor Adeboye also prayed to God to restore all the state’s lost glories.
This is not the first time the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God will be visiting Ekiti State. His last visit to the state was in December 2014.
On arrival, Pastor Adeboye was received by Governor Fayose and the Ewi of Ado-Ekiti, Oba Rufus Adejugbe, at the monarch’s palace.
In their separate remarks, Governor Fayose and the Ewi of ado Ekiti said the visit of the renowned cleric was a blessing to the state.
“The visit of Pastor Adeboye to Ekiti State at this time is a blessing to the government and people of the state,” Governor Fayose told reporters.
A special prayer session was also held, where the cleric prayed that God would grant Governor Fayose all his heart desires.
Ekiti State Governor, Ayo Fayose, has vowed that under no circumstance would he join the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Although he said earlier in the week that he was yet to be clear about the platform he would use to fight the 2018 succession battle in the state, Fayose said he remains constant and unshaken with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the platform he used to win the governorship polls twice.
The Governor had on Wednesday in Ikere Ekiti, at a meeting with the members of the Suppliers’ Association of Nigeria, Ikere chapter, said that he may not use PDP platform to present candidate for the 2018 poll.
Fayose’s comment might be informed by the polarization of the party into the Ahmed Makarfi and Ali Modu Sheriff factions, which led to the failure of the party’s candidate, Eyitayo Jegede in the just concluded governorship poll in Ondo State.
But speaking at the palace of Ewi of Ado Ekiti, Oba Rufus Adejugbe while being conferred with the honour of ‘Outstanding Achiever of Our Time’ by Ado Progressive Union, he said he will never dump the PDP for APC under any guise.
“I will never dump PDP for APC. I remain strong and unshaken for the PDP. I can’t jump the boat, even if I want to jump, I won’t jump into the red sea.
“Why should I leave the PDP and join a party of hunger like APC? Ekiti is different from Ondo. By the grace of God, there will be a repeat of history here in 2018, I shall repeat the 16-0 that I gave them in 2014.
“I operate like the biblical Elisha because those with us are greater than theirs. The God of Israel that conquered Philistines shall be on our side.”
Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, has formally laid the foundation stone of the new Oba market in Ado Ekiti, the state capital.
The new Oba market project estimated at over three billion Naira is to replace the old market which was demolished in December 2015, following a fire disaster.
Speaking during the foundation laying ceremony, Governor Fayose refered to the project as another promise that has been fulfilled by his administration.
The Governor added that the construction of the market would be completed within 18 months and be ready for use.
The Ewi of Ado Ekiti, Oba Rufus Adejugbe, commended the Governor for his work in the state, stressing that the new Oba market is not for the people of Ado Ekiti alone, but for all indigenes of the state and Nigeria at large.
Some market women in the state also showed their appreciation to the state government.
The occasion was graced by the Governor, his wife, the Deputy Governor, traditional rulers and other top government officials in the state.
