John Momoh Leads BON Members To Rivers For 71st General Assembly


The Chairman of the Broadcasting Organisation of Nigeria (BON) and Chairman of the Channels Media Group, Mr John Momoh has led other members of the group, to Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital, where its 71st General Assembly will be taking place.

The team which arrived in Port Harcourt on Monday was received by the Deputy Governor of the State Ipalebo Harry-Banigo.

They were also taken to see some projects in the state.


Calabar Health Workers Protest Against Old Salary Scale


Workers of the College of Health Technology Calabar, (COHTECH) have taken to major streets of the Cross River state capital, demanding the implementation of a seven-year-old salary scale which was approved in 2011.

The protesting workers include members of the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnic (ASUP) and the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Polytechnics (SSANIP).

According to them, COHTECH remains the only tertiary institution in the state that is yet to benefit from the Consolidated Polytechnics and Colleges of Education Academic Salary Structure, (CONPCASS).

In order to ensure their demands are met, the two unions on Wednesday shut down the school located at Mary-Slessor in Calabar as they commenced a three-day warning strike.

They also took their protest to the Government House, where they were addressed by the state’s Special Adviser on Labour and Productivity, Mr Effiong Ita Umo.

He assured them that the state government will the matter and appealed to them to be patient.

Wike Promises To Serve Rivers People As He Marks Second Anniversary

Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State has reiterated his administration’s commitment in serving the people of the state.

He made this pledge on Saturday in an interview with journalists after projects inspection while celebrating the second anniversary of the Supreme Court Judgment validating his election as governor.

“We give God the glory, we give God all the honour because January 27, 2016, was when the Supreme Court gave us the nod as people who were duly elected with the people’s mandate,” he said.

“I am quite impressed by the kind of support we are getting from everywhere. We will not renege on our promises, we will not disappoint them. All we need is their prayer.
“We also commend the Supreme Court who has shown commitment to being the last hope of not only the common man but everybody.”

While thanking his people for their continuous support, Wike promised to continue using their mandate to develop the state.

The governor directed contractors handling rehabilitation of the Court of Appeal Complex, the National Industrial Court, the Produce House, the Mother and Child Hospital and the Cinemas/Restaurants at the Pleasure Park, May 2018 to complete the projects.

He expressed satisfaction with the pace of work at the different project sites, stressing that the administration will sustain the funding of all the projects.

Wike Inspects Road Projects, Says Goal Is To Make Rivers People Happy

The Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, has promised to deliver the dividends of democracy to the people, noting that the essence of government is to provide happiness, and it will not relent in its efforts to do so.

“The essence of government is to bring happiness to the people and that is what we are doing. We are ensuring that all local government areas have access to the dividends of democracy”.

He said this on Friday during the inspection of Key road projects in the state such as the Ogoni-Andoni-Opobo-Nkoro Unity road which according to him will be completed as soon as possible.

Governor Wike Assures ONELGA People Of Enhanced Security

Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike has assured the people of Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area (ONELGA) that the State Government will continue to build the security infrastructure in the area to enforce peace.

He stated that the younger brother of slain cultist, Don Wanny, Mr Oluchi Igwedibia will soon be tracked down alongside other fleeing members of the Don Wanny clan for the greater peace of ONELGA.

Governor Wike spoke during a security meeting at the ONELGA Council Secretariat Pavilion. The governor was accompanied by service commanders.

Governor Wike revealed that Rivers APC leaders have approached the 32 cultists declared wanted, asking them to join their political platform ahead of the electioneering period.

He stated that his administration will not be deterred by the political antics of Rivers APC, saying that the deadly cultists will be traced and brought to justice.

“Nobody should play politics with the security of lives. Since we declared these cultists wanted, they have approached them to work with them. Whether or not they work with APC, they will meet their Waterloo,” he said.

He urged the people of ONELGA to work with the Rivers State Government to ensure that the area remains peaceful so that the people can recover from the devastation of the past.

The governor said everyone must work together to build the peace of ONELGA to avoid a repeat of the New Year tragedy.

He said: “I am here today to further express my condolences to the families that lost loved ones and also express my sympathy to the injured. Like I said before, the Rivers State Government will foot the hospital bills of the injured and support the families of the deceased “.

The governor particularly announced that the State Government will take up the training of a one-year girl, Purity Anthony orphaned by the Don Wanny attack. He stated that the State Government will set aside N50million for her education.

Governor Wike said the manner that Don Wanny met his untimely end, indicates that nobody will escape the long arm of the law, irrespective of the charms they possess.

While thanking the local vigilante group, OSPAC, for their contributions to the restoration of peace and the dislodgement of Donny Wanny, he warned them against following the criminal route, as they will suffer the Don Wanny fate.

He said that Don Wanny reign of terror lasted throughout the leadership of Amaechi, pointing out that he was eliminated as a result of the commitment of his administration.

Commenting on the politicisation of Rivers Security by the Minister of Transportation, the governor regretted that the Minister has devoted his days at the Federal Executive Council to creating a crisis in the state.

He listed several projects that he attracted to the state as a Minister of State for Education and wondered why the Minister of Transportation has failed alongside his godson, the Director General of NIMASA.

He informed ONELGA people that he has reached agreements with Agip and Total on their corporate social responsibility to the host communities. He said that the State Service Commanders and the Secretary to the Rivers State Government met with Agip and Total on Tuesday to finalise the process for the implementation of agreements reached.

Governor Wike announced that all projects started in ONELGA will be completed and more projects will be initiated for the people.

Earlier, Chairman of ONELGA, Mr Osi Olisa said that the people of the area will continue to work with the Rivers State Governor to entrench peace in the area.

He said that ONELGA remains loyal to the Rivers State Governor beyond 2019 because of his achievements.

Rivers Governor Visits Victims Of New Year Attack

River State Governor Nyesom Wike on Tuesday visited victims of the attack that occurred in Ogba, Egbema, Ndoni Local Government Area of the state on New Year day.

The Governor visited the community alongside security officials. He placed a bounty of N200million on the perpetrators, promising to bring them to book.

Police Kill Notorious Kidnap Kingpin, Robbery Suspect, Vampire

‘Vampire’ with other suspects

Police Special Forces, led by the IGP Intelligence Response Team (IRT) have killed notorious kidnap kingpin and armed robbery suspect, Henry Chibueze, also known as ‘Vampire’.

The wanted criminal met his waterloo early this morning at about 1AM on Thursday during a gunbattle with the IGP Intelligence Response Team in Omu Awa Forest,Ikwerre L.G.A. Rivers State.

Five other members of his gang were arrested alive and cache of arms and ammunition were recovered.

Recall that Vampire had escaped from Imo High Court premises following a shootout between gunmen and security operatives in Owerri, Imo State on January 27th.

In an attack that left several persons wounded,men suspected to be members of his gang attacked the operatives when Vampire and other inmates arrived at the premises of the Imo High Court in Owerri.

According to an eyewitness,the gunmen, over six of them, found their way into the court premises shortly after over 50 inmates were conveyed to court for hearing of various suits filed against them.

The gunmen opened fire on the security operatives and inmates at the court premises shooting sporadically into the air for over 10 minutes leaving several people wounded as Vampire and about eight other inmates escaped.

The Imo Governor, Rochas Okorocha promised a reward of Five million Naira to anyone with valuable information that can lead to the arrest of the escapee criminal.

Rivers Security: Nigerian Army Dislodges Criminal Gangs

army-bootThe Nigerian Army has continued to dislodge criminal gangs in Omoku, River state, following the terror that was unleashed in parts of the state during the December 10 rerun elections.

It was confirmed that 15 people were horrifically murdered including a soldier, two policemen, four personnel of the Civil Defence Corps and eight civilians, while ammunition, weapons and vehicles were taken away by the bandits.

The General Officer Commanding 6 division, Major General Kasimu Abdulkareem, disclosed this while parading arms, ammunition and other items recovered from some of the criminal dens.

Abdulkareem, explained that the operation is in continuation of a clean-up exercise to recover and mop up illegally acquired weapons from cultists and militants who continue to terrorise communities and some parts of the country in general.

Rivers ASUP Commends State For Salaries’ Payment, Seeks Better Infrastructure

riversMembers of the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP) in Rivers State have commended the State government for the payment of salaries owed workers, but decried the poor state of infrastructures in the institution.

They also called for the upgrade of the institution from polytechnic to university, emergence of the next rector and the high spate of insecurity in the state.

The Rivers State government had few days ago paid the three months salary arrears it was owing lectures.

With a population of about 5,000 students, they believe the security of the environment and adequate infrastructural development would enable quality learning and a peaceful environment.

I Am Alive, Hale And Hearty – Abiye Sekibo

Abiye_SekiboThe former Minister of Transport, and governorship candidate of the defunct Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN, in the 2011 general elections in Rivers State, Dr Abiye Sekibo has denied rumours that he is dead, which made the rounds on the internet.

In a statement by the former his former Media Director, Mr Jerry Needam, the politician said he “is alive and strong”.

The statement adds that as a “medical doctor, Dr Abiye Sekibo, is shocked to learn of the unfounded, baseless and malicious stunt from the rumour mill about his sudden demise.

“Such evil imagination could only come from those already doomed and are disappointedly looking for co-travelers”, he said.

He called the general public to discountenance any such report from the social media or the “satanic agents themselves”.

Dr. Sekibo also thanked relations and friends who wasted no time in putting calls across to ascertain the true position out of genuine concern, praying God to bless them all.

The Rivers State-born politician was rumoured to have died on his way out of the country to seek medical attention.

APGA Endorses Jonathan For Second Term, As TAN Rallies South-South

APGA-TANSolidarity for President Goodluck Jonathan has started pouring in from different quarters.

The Transformation Ambassadors of Nigeria and members of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, both have endorsed President Jonathan for a second term.

At different rallies held in Port Harcourt and Anambra State, both groups unanimously agreed that one good term deserves another.

Thousands of transformation ambassadors gathered at the Liberation Stadium in Port Harcourt Rivers State to ask the President to re-contest the presidency come 2015.APGA

It was the third in the nationwide solidarity campaign for the President’s re-election bid in 2015, organized by the Transformation Ambassador of Nigeria.

With solidarity songs and placards displaying their love, delegates from the South South region of Nigeria took turns to climb the podium as they pledged their allegiance to the man they call an agent of change.

Millions also signed the big book to show their seriousness in backing President Jonathan for another term. So far over 4 million signatures from the South-South region have been gathered.

Meanwhile, in Awka, the capital of Anambra State, South-East Nigeria, it was a different gathering but one that tells the same story.

APGAMembers of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, gathered to rally the support of their members to endorse President Jonathan for a second term.

The National Chairman of the party, Victor Umeh, while speaking at the rally said, “Ever since 2011, APGA has remained a strategic partner to President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan in Nigeria.

“We have, as party leaders, at various times, spoken unequivocally of our support for President Goodluck Jonathan.

“In 2013, there was a governorship election in Anambra State, and from what we have seen in Nigeria under President Goodluck Jonathan’s watch, credible and free election is now the order of the day…Democracy has come to stay in Nigeria.”

The party, therefore, believes that one good term deserves another.

“Looking at the political template in Nigeria today, we are certain that President Goodluck Jonathan needs to be re-elected for another 4 years in office,” Umeh told the gathering.

Police Ban Gatherings At Airports

The Nigerian Police has banned gatherings, receptions and carnivals at airports across the country.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Mr Frank Mba, explained that the ban is part of a deliberate effort to avert any security breach and protect critical infrastructure, travellers and airport staff.

The police authorities have directed all airport command commissioners and state commissioners of police hosting the airports to ensure compliance with the directive.

This order is coming after the supporters of Rivers State Governor; Rotimi Amaechi forced their way onto the tarmac of the Port Harcourt International Airport during the visit of APC leaders to Port Harcourt on Tuesday, an act seen as a security breach.
