Blatter, along with UEFA President, Michel Platini and FIFA General Secretary, Jerome Valcke, was suspended for 90 days in the early hours of Thursday, following approval by FIFA’s Adjudicatory Chamber of a recommendation made by the ethics committee.
The sanctions against Blatter can be extended by up to 45 days.
The 79-year-old has denied any wrongdoing and a statement released by his lawyers questions the conduct of the ethics committee.
FIFA’s disciplinary body – the adjudicatory chamber of the Ethics Committee, which is chaired by Judge Hans-Joachim Eckert, said that the bans come into force immediately and could be extended by another 45 days.
