The Governor of Edo State in southern Nigeria has asked residents of the state to ensure that a credible successor is elected in the coming governorship election.

Governor Adams Oshiomhole said year 2016 would present the people of the state with the opportunity to elect an individual who would build on the successes recorded by his government in the past seven years.

In his New Year message signed by his spokesman, Mr Peter Okhiriathe, Governor Oshiomhole said the government was proud of the remarkable achievements they recorded in the past seven years.

He said that the government remained thankful to the people for the trust and confidence reposed in it to conduct the affairs of the state.

The Governor also stated that he expected rumours and counter rumours in 2016, the election year, but he assured the residents that the government would remain focussed and finish strong.
