Herdsmen Kill One, Injure Three In Adamawa State

RiversOne person has been killed and five others injured when herdsmen attacked Oke-Ako community in Ikole Local Government Area of Ekiti State.

The attack occurred at about 8:00pm local time on Friday.

An eyewitness alleged that the herdsmen in their numbers invaded the community in the night with guns, bow, arrows, sword, machetes and shot sporadically, leaving Mr Lekan Arossayin dead and five others seriously injured.

The injured persons have been taken to a private hospital in Ado Ekiti, the capital of the state.

‘Reprisal Attack’

Another eyewitness also described the incident as a ‘reprisal attack’.

He said the herdsmen had a fall-out previously with the villagers over their grazing activities in the community.

According to him, the villagers had been resisting the use of their farmlands as grazing fields by the herdsmen.

The Commissioner of Police, Etop John-James, said security personnel had taken control to prevent further attack on the community.

The father of the young man who was killed by the herdsmen appealed for government’s intervention.

For now, the people of the community continue to live in fear, while some are already moving out of the town.

While Nigeria seems to be reeling out of insurgency in the northeast, attack by herdsmen on communities are increasing.

President Muhammadu Buhari had asked security operatives in the nation to check the trend and bring perpetrators to book.
