The Imo State government has commissioned a 24 hours emergency response Centre aimed at delivery emergency and quality health care to the people of the state.
The state Governor, Rochas Okorocha says the gesture by the state government is to address the deficiencies in the health sector and deliver quality health care to the people.
He enjoined the people of the state to take advantage of this newly commissioned facility to cater for their health challenges.
He added that his administration is committed quality and qualitative health care delivery, to the people of the state which has been demonstrated in the building of 27 General Hospitals.
“When i became governor in 2011, One of my first project was to introduce health at your door step.
“We did so because we want to bring health care to the door step of the ordinary citizens of Imo State in particular.
“And I believe that power is not complete unless you make it available to the common man on the streets.
This is why we introduced health at your door step with many ambulances and many trained officers.
“In Nigeria what’s more important is health information more than health care, therefore People need to be aware and this should be a campaign, to let them know what they must do at any particular time.
The 24 hours emergency response Centre which is located in Owerri has state of the heart medical facilities that can cater for immediate health challenges before being referred to a bigger hospital for treatment.
The Centre also has a 24 hours Rapid response telephone service and stationed ambulances to help discharge its primary duties as stipulated.
The Imo State Commissioner of Health, Ngozi Njoku said ” It was the vision of the governor to support this programme and said we must start it, because it is meant to save lives.
Meanwhile, the Minister of Health, Isaac Adewole who was a special guest at the event commended the state government describing it as a laudable gesture, that will add value to health care delivery in the state.
The Minister said, “I’m yet to see a centre like this in Africa. The location is so unique. It’s central, accessible and this is one importance in emergency rescue centre.”
The government says the emergency response Centre is opened 24 hours, 7 days and has been equipped with competent medical officials and equipment, to cater for people’s health challenges.
