Medical doctors in the Federal capital territory (FCT), Abuja on Friday lent their voice to the on-going crisis in the Lagos State health sector demanding the state government to immediately reinstate all sacked doctors accusing the state governor of mass genocide.

The Chairman of the Nigerian medical association, FCT, Nicholas Baamlong who was speaking at a news conference in Abuja, asked the Lagos State government to implement the agreement reached with the medical guild on the 24 March 2011 without conditions or demotion.

“We condemn the insensitivity being shown by the Lagos state government to quickly address this issue which shows its total and systematic decimation of the population of the suffering masses in Lagos state in an act which we feel is tantamount to mass genocide,” he said.

Mr Baamlong said doctors in the FCT condemn the politicization of the purely industrial dispute by some individuals, making it difficult to reach speedy resolution.
He said the medical association is surprised that people who should have waded into the crisis to ensure peaceful resolution have decided to remain silent.

“We are amazed by the grave yard silence of the Lagos state House of Assembly, the Lagos state traditional institutions, leaders of thoughts and some critically placed individuals over this negligence to ensure the health and safety of Lagosians,” he said.

The doctors who described the sack of the 788 doctors about two weeks ago, as insensitive called on the presidency, National Assembly and royal fathers to wade in to avoid a breakdown of nation’s health sector.
