Boko HaramA suspected member of the Boko Haram sect has told a panel of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) probing the alleged extra-judicial killing of squatters at an uncompleted building in Apo area of Abuja, Nigeria’s capital that members of the sect were meeting on a regular basis before he was arrested.

Mohammed Adamu made the revelation when members of the panel visited the uncompleted building where eight persons were killed during a military raid on September 20, 2013.

He told the panel that the group had planned to attack government institutions before they were arrested.

Mr Adamu, who spoke  in Hausa, says one Suleman, who is at large, is the leader of the sect in Abuja and that they met three times a week to plan how to defend their religion before they were arrested.

“We meet between 8:00pm and 11:00pm, local time, daily,” he said.

The executive secretary of the commission, Professor Bem Angwe, after the physical examination of the site, announced that the commission would conclude the public hearing by the end of the month and its findings would be made public by February.

“We will continue the public hearing at our headquarters where more testimonies will be taken,” Professor Angwe said.
