The Supreme Court has nullified the election of two senators and eight members of the House of Representatives on the platform of the congress for progressive change, CPC in Katsina State.
In a unanimous judgment, a seven-man panel of the apex court held that going by the provisions of the electoral act 2010 and the 1999 constitution, as amended, the Independent National Electoral Commission(INEC), ought not to have recognized the ousted lawmakers as authentic candidates of the CPC for the April 2011 General Election.
The court ruled that the affected lawmakers were not validly nominated.
Also in Abuja, The Court of Appeal has declared the wife of the late Senator Chuba Okadigbo, Mrs. Margery Chuba-Okadigbo as the authentic candidate of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) and winner of the Anambra North Senatorial District in the April 16 National Assembly Election.
