
The attack left about 10 people dead, reports says. The gunmen were armed with sophisticated weapons and stormed the area sending unarmed civilians and security forces fleeing the scene.
According to reports, the gang had demobilized the armoured tank stationed at the Okene local government secretariat prior to the attack, effectively cutting off communication with the Nigerian police.
Businesses in the area have closed down as a result of the attacks. Meanwhile, the Public Relations Officer of Kogi State Police Command, Mr. Ajayi Okasanmi confirmed that there was a robbery incident, and that it was difficult to contact police officials in Okene because of communication problems.
Mr. Okasani couldn’t confirm the number of deaths.
