The Italian government has condemned the Christmas day bombings in Madalla, outskirts of Abuja.

In a statement issued by the Italian Minister of Foreign Affairs through the embassy in Nigeria, Giulio Terzi said “these are horrific events; I wish to express my firm condemnation of these contemptible attacks, which are an assault on the universal principles of civilisation”.

He pledged that will continue to defend freedom of worship and the promotion of interfaith dialogue and tolerance in Nigeria and elsewhere around the world.

Part of the statement reads, “Our deep sympathies for the victims and their families, go along with our hopes that the authorities of Nigeria – a partner whose role both in Africa and globally we fully acknowledge-are successful in bringing the perpetrators of this violence to justice and in ensuring respect for all the country’s religious denominations”.
