Bomb blast rocks Kogi state

The industrial town of Ajaokuta in Kogi state was in the early hours of today thrown into pandemonium as armed men bombed a divisional Police station and a United Bank for Africa (UBA) office in the state.

The police station which was completely burnt down by the explosions was the first point of attack by the unidentified men before launching a similar attack on the bank.

According to eye witness account in the area, the operation lasted from 12midnight to 4am with about four lives lost during the explosion.

Confirming the incidence, the Kogi state Police commissioner; Marvel Akweyibo said it was a “clear case of armed robbery” which was foiled by strong resistance from his command. He denied that the attacks were by members of the Boko Haram sect, insisting that “it was a case of armed robbery attack on the bank.”

The commissioner who stated that his command has fashioned out robust measures to safeguarding lives and property in the state, noting that, he led his men to the robbery seen at 3am.
