Former president, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo has stated that his sudden resignation as the chairman of the Board of Trustee (BOT) of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) is not abrupt.

In an exclusive interview with Channels Television, the former President stated that contrary to wide spread belief that his resignation was rather abrupt; he had actually given notice of his decision to leave the position about a year ago.

He also stated that he has completed his mission in the party, and that it was only fitting he quits the stage.

When asked when he chose to leave so unceremoniously, the former head of state asked in return “what ceremony?” “That I should call a parade and say I want to resign”?

“These are statements I hear and I get worked up and furious” he said.

Mr Obasanjo also attributed his decision to quit to his military background, when he referred to a discipline of “Two down.”

The former president who was also a one-time military head of state, explained that “God has given me the opportunity to successfully achieve my two-down in politics. I have being able to bring out my successor and my successor’s-successor” he said, referring to his handing over to late head of state, Umaru YarÁdua and who is now succeeded by incumbent president Goodluck Jonathan.

He also noted that another two-down achievement for him is witnessing two national conventions of the ruling PDP.
