The Edo State governor, Adams Oshiomhole on Monday asked the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to stop the planned voter’s registration exercise over suspected plan by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to hijack the process in its favour.

Mr Oshiomhole who made this demand while addressing supporters of the Action Congress of Nigeria Party (ACN) who besieged the INEC headquarters in Benin City said his supporters will not leave the INEC’s office until the INEC Chairman, Attihiru Jega intervenes to remove the officials working with the PDP to perfect plans in rigging the forthcoming governor ship election.

“They have murdered sleep, they will no know sleep,” Mr Oshiomhole said.

He told the protesters that his aide would arrange to bring them snacks and water so that they can ‘occupy’ INEC office “until professor Jega intervenes and remove Chidi and Umeh and ensure that the fake registration they want to do is stopped.”

INEC had announced that it will commence the update of voters register from Tuesday May 15.

According to the commission, the one week exercise will be for only those not registered by the commission or those who had problems with their registration.

Asked to comment on the issues raised by the governor and thousands of protesters, the Public Relations Officer of INEC in Edo State, Imoude Sule said she was not authorised by the National body to comment on the issues raised since the commission in Edo state currently do not have a Resident Electoral Commissioner.

The PDP in Edo State however described the allegations of Mr. Oshiomhole and the ACN as baseless and a ploy by the ACN to find an alibi for what they called their impending failure.
