The Arewa Consultative Council (ACF) has pledged to back President Goodluck Jonathan against the raging insurgency by fundamentalist sect, Boko Haram.

The decision was taken after an interactive session with the president last night in the Presidential Villa.

The northern group revealed that they have already set up a committee on the issue and will be making a report available to the federal government.

On its part, the federal government said its doors will remain open for consultation as it is ready to work with them.

Speaking on the outcome of the meeting the leader of the group,   General Jerry Useni (RTD) told state house correspondents that their role is to always advise the government as the representative of the north.

He expressed happiness that the federal government is open to dialogue with the group.

On the comments by General Buhari that there will be crisis in 2015 if the elections are rigged, General Useni said he is not in a position to speak for anyone as the future belongs to God.

Also speaking, presidential spokesman, Dr, Reuben Abati said the meeting between the president and ACF was one of the regular meetings between the presidency and leaders of thought.

He said, at the interactive meeting yesterday, the ACF pledged support and solidarity to the president on how to tackle insecurity.

“It (ACF) pledged that it has taken steps and it is also taking more steps to assists the federal government and that it has even set up a committee to come up with procedures and recommendations. Once that committee completes its work, its recommendations will be made available to the federal government and the president thanked them for their support” Mr Abati explained.
