The Bayelsa State governor, Seriake Dickson on Tuesday ordered the immediate and indefinite closure of all schools in the state following an upsurge of flood in the state.

Mr Dickson’s order was due to the rising water levels across the state and the danger it posed to the citizens.

The order is contained in a statement signed by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Daniel Iworiso-Markson.

He said the decision was taken to safeguard the lives of children and to keep them away from possible dangers that could arise from the flood.

“Government has, therefore, appealed to parents and guardians to accept the decision as it was taken in the interest of all.

“We want to assure you that normal academic activities will resume as soon as the situation is brought under control,” he said.

The governor assured the people of the State of Government’s commitment to their welfare and well-being.
