Gov. Obi inspects road projects in Onitsha

The Anambra state government is spending about Ten Billion Naira on the on-going reconstruction of Nkpor to Amawbia road on the old Enugu/Onitsha road.

The governor, Peter Obi, revealed this during the inspection of the project accompanied by the managing director of the contracting firm.

He urged those living in the neighborhood of the construction to take full ownership of the project through supervision and forwarding of observation and complains to the appropriate bodies.

The governor said though Nkpor/Amawbia stretch is a federal road, his administration having considered the strategic importance of the road embarked on the reconstruction project of the road.

In order to enhance movement as well as boost economic activities in the state and its environs. He urged residents in the area to ensure effective supervision of government projects.

Also on the on-going reconstruction of the Onitsha/Awka/Enugu expressway, the governor expressed gratitude to the federal government for increasing the tempo of work on the project.

Inspecting the extent and quality of job done on the overhead bridge at New Parts, Nkpor, the governor accompanied by the managing director of the contracting firm was satisfied with the effort, he said work will be completed by December while the massive erosion that threatened houses in Omagba Phase One has been controlled with the water channeled into Nkisi River.

Though an appreciative measure of road construction is on-going in various parts of the state, the people say nothing could be more meaningful than an urgent attention being paid to the entire Enugu/Onitsha expressway which could only be described as a slaughter slab.
