The Police Command in Kano state has announced the restriction of motorcycle (okada) operation within the state from 6PM to 6AM.

Addressing a news conference on Thursday, the state’s Police Commissioner, Mr Ibrahim Idris said the imposition of ban on motorcycle operators was necessitated because “some criminals are using motorcycles to wreak havoc in the state.”

Until the new restriction, the motorcycle operators were restricted from 8PM to 6AM.

Relative peace is reported to have returned to Kano city that has witnessed a number of terror attacks in recent months, however, various armed robbery attacks and killing of civilian and police officers in some areas of the state poses a new threat to the state’ security agencies.

Although several arrests were made in the fast few days, the police say most of the crimes are committed using motorcycle.

Meanwhile, the Police boss also declared that snap check points have been put in place across the state to check and arrest the violators.

He called on road users to abide by the new rules and regulation.

On the forthcoming Christmas and New Year festivals, the police command said water tight security deployment at strategic points including places of worship, markets, and other public places will be in place.
