A presiding judge of the Federal High Court Abuja, Justice Gabriel Kolawole, has fixed November 29, 2012 for a ruling on whether six non-governmental organisations, led by the Socio-Economic and Accountability Project (SERAP) have the right to know how $12.4 billion gulf oil windfall was spent by the Federal Government under former Military President, General Ibrahim Babangida.

In announcing the new date, the judge apologised for the adjournment, which is one of many adjournments of the suit in the past.

The six civil society groups filed the suit against the Attorney- General of the Federation (AGF) and the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) over the oil revenue recorded between 1988 and 1992.

The plaintiffs are asking the court, among other things to make an order compelling the CBN and the AGF to publish detailed accounts relating to the spending of the sum of money between 1988 and 1994, and the release of the official copy of a probe into the spendings by a committee set up by the government and headed by the late economist, Pius Okigbo.
