PDP BoT: Gana’s Committee May Submit Report Tonight
Barring any last-minute changes, the Jerry Gana committee that was mandated on the 8th of January to restructure the membership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Board of Trustee (BoT) will submit its report this night.
The meeting of the Board is scheduled to hold at the Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
The committee may adopt a formula that any member of the Board that has defected to other parties between 1999 to date should automatically be said to have lost his or her privileged status of being a member of the PDP BoT.
A three-hour meeting of members of the BoT which also held at the Presidential Villa last month failed to produce a new chairman of the board as expected.
The meeting was meant to elect a replacement for former President Olusegun Obasanjo who resigned from the position last year.
At the end of the meeting which ended at about 11.30pm, Nigeria’s Ambassador to Canada, Chief Ojo Maduekwe, said the Jerry Gana committee was set up to streamline membership of the board in preparation for the election of a new chairman. The committee was given three weeks to conclude its assignment.
Maduekwe said the mandate of the committee was to properly align membership of the board in such a way that the election of the next BoT chairman would be a model of internal democracy.
