The Cross River State Governor Liyel Imoke returned to the country on Friday, after spending about 3 months abroad.

The Special Assistant on Media to Governor Imoke, Christian Ita, said the governor arrived after 10 pm aboard a chartered flight.

“The governor arrived in Calabar through the Margaret Ekpo International Airport late last night,’’ he said.

Governor Imoke had travelled to the United States to receive treatment for what his office described as a minor health concern as well an official leave.

Deputy Governor, Efiok Cobham, took his place for the duration of the leave in line with the provisions of the country’s constitution.

Governor Imoke made his first public appearance on Saturday evening at the U.J. Esuene Stadium in Calabar where he had gone to watch the friendly match between the Golden Eaglets and Botswana Starlets’.

The Eaglets, who have been camping in Calabar for months, are scheduled to host their Botswanan counterparts in two matches scheduled for Saturday and Monday.

Governor Imoke was last seen in Calabar on Dec. 6, 2012.

He was said to have proceeded on a two-month accumulated leave, after he had earlier written to the State House of Assembly on his intention to proceed on leave.
