The Chief Justice of Nigeria, Mariam Aloma-Mukhtar appears poised to wield the big stick as she has threatened that judges who do not deliver three to four judgments in a year and live above board will be shown the way out of the system.

The Chief Justice gave the warning while receiving a judicial performance evaluation report by the Nigerian Institute for Advanced Legal Studies.

Justice Muktar lamented the growing cases of indiscipline amongst judges as the judicial performance evaluation showed some defects in the system, especially amongst legal officers.

She maintained that acts of indiscipline such as lateness to court and arbitrary travels by judges will no longer be tolerated.

The CJN disclosed that the National Judicial Institute has embarked on the evaluation of judges, adding that the judicial performance evaluation will be used to sanction erring judicial officers and  elevate those that are of good conduct.
