The House of Representatives has ordered its committee on Justice to investigate an amendment made to section 18 of the Armed Forces Act allegedly done without the knowledge of the National Assembly.
This comes on the heels of a court declaration stripping the president of the powers to appoint service chiefs without the approval of the senate
The motion, moved by Rep Ibrahim El-Sudi, noted that the amendments clearly contravenes section 4 (1) of the constitution which vests powers to make and amend laws On the National Assembly.
The house has mandated its committee to look into the matter and report back in four weeks.
