Shekau Will Be Dead By Friday – Analyst

A counter terrorism analyst, Kehinde Alabi, has said that he will only consider the Boko Haram leader, Abubakar Shekau dead, only if he does not re-surface by Friday.

This he said on Channels Television’s breakfast programme, Sunrise Daily, where he stated that the death of Abubakar Shekau is ‘good news to the whole nation’

Although his death has not been confirmed with emphatic statements, the analyst explained that the unknown whereabouts of the sect’s leader’s corpse gives room for doubts.

“By Friday I will proclaim him dead,” he said.

Citing a case where America proclaimed Osama Bin Laden dead after a gun battle in Afghanistan, he said the ‘dead’ terrorist refuted the proclamation after posting a video message online.

“In the case of Shekau, I would say that let’s leave it till Friday. By Friday, if really he is dead, he would not come on air to unleash all his statement of terrorism against Nigeria.”

“If by Friday the sect leader does not make any statement, “then we can confirm that he’s really dead,’ he added.

The death of Shekau, who has been the mastermind of many attacks against Nigerians over the past four years, “is going to send a lot of shock into the minds of his followers.”

In the interim, if he is really dead, there would be disorganisation in the sect as there would be lots of scampering in order to find a new leader.
