The federal government has been advised to ensure that issues that will pose a threat to the unity, stability and security of the country as a united Nigeria should not be entertained in the national conference that is being planned.

This is part of the resolutions reached by the Inter Party Advisory Council (IPAC) after their 3rd executive meeting in Abuja.

The Chairman of the Council, Yunusa Tanko says leaders of the political parties in Nigeria support the idea of the national dialogue and believes it will help address issues such as instability, corruption, insecurity and true federalism.

The President during the country’s Independent broadcast on October 1st announced the setting up of the committee to establish modalities for a national conference aimed at resolving issues that currently cause friction in the polity.

He said the advisory committee which is expected to complete its assignment within one month will be mandated to establish the modalities for a national conference and that the committee will have Dr. Femi Okurounmu as its Chairperson and Dr. Akilu Indabawa as its Secretary.

After the president’s broadcast, the Senate President, David Mark, also gave his backing for the convocation of a national conference noting that a conference of Nigeria’s ethnic nationalities to foster frank and open discussions of the national question has his support.
