The Police have dispersed a protest organised by a coalition of civil societies to compel the government to meet up with its constitutional responsibilities to the citizens.

The young men and women from various civil society organisations gathered at the Millennium Park, their meeting point to embark on a protest on the need for government to address issues hindering the nation’s development.

They had barely entered a bus to convey them to the take-off point of the protest, when police men allegedly fired tear gas to disperse them.

The Policy, Advocacy and Campaigns Coordinator of Action Aid Nigeria, who is also one of the organisers of the protest, tagged ‘Stop Impunity Nigeria’, Mr Tunde Aremu, described the incident as a violation of the protesters human rights.

He stressed that they remain undeterred in ensuring that government lives up to its responsibility of making the country a better place for all citizens.

Carrying placards with several inscriptions, the protesters called on the legislature and the executive to tackle corruption, poor budgetary allocation to key sectors of the economy and poor infrastructure.
